Announced in 1996, Disneyland officials uncovered plans to build a new theme park about California in Anaheim. The expansion will be on 55 acres of what was Disneyland's main parking lot. The park will be divided in 4 different areas. The areas are California's Golden Beaches, Eureka Adventure, Hollywood, and the Waterfront Village. Groundbreaking has already begun and the park should be open by 2001. The project will cost 1.4 billion dollars. The sections of the park have these different features:

The Golden Beaches will be a palm-lined promenade. Guests can shop while seeing surfers ride mechanically roduced waves and skateboarders perform stunts. Street artists and musicians will show off their talents much like at Venice Beach. Classic amusement park rides will also be featured including a wooden roller coaster topped with Mickey Mouse ears.

The Eureka Adventure is a rugged playland. Visitors will be able to fly on a hang glider over the San Fransisco Bay, Big Sur coastline, and other places. Visitors can also explore underground caves, geyser fields, forests, Indian petroglyphs, prehistoric digs, and a goldmone from the gold rush era.

In Hollywood, guests will see the process of television production, see sneak previews of upcoming Disney features, and make their own cartoons at the Animation Playground.

The Waterfront Village will honor California's spirit in technology, abriculture, and other industries. One of the attractions here include a ride that will show guests the secrets of Californian agriculture, the making of San Fransisco's sourdough bread, a chocolate factory, and a garge where the first PC was assembled.
